When Men Murder Women: An Analysis of 2005 Homicide Data To coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Violence Policy Center has released When Men Murder Women: An Analysis of 2005 Homicide Data (36 pages, PDF). According to the annual report, Nevada ranked highest in the nation in the rate of women killed by men (1.32 per 100,000), followed by Alaska, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Funded by the Joyce and Herb Block foundations, the study also found that, for homicides in which the victim-to-offender relationship could be identified, 92 percent of female victims were murdered by someone they knew.
