Aiming Higher: Results From a State Scorecard on Health System Performance With rising health costs in America squeezing the budgets of businesses, families, and public programs, there is a pressing need to improve the performance of and reap greater value from the health system, a new report from the New York City-based Commonwealth Fund argues. The report, Aiming Higher: Results From a State Scorecard on Health System Performance (78 pages, PDF), examines variations by state across key dimensions of health system performance, including access, quality, avoidable hospital use and costs, equity, and healthy lives. Among other things, the report's findings document wide variation among states and the potential for substantial improvement if all states approached levels achieved by the best-performing states.
