Disaster Safe With the 2007 hurricane season officially having begun on June 1, the American Red Cross is urging people to register at the Disaster Safe site, which it created to help people communicate with loved ones after a natural disaster. At the site, people list their names and hometowns, so if a tragedy occurs they can update the information with a message such as "safe and well," either through the site or a toll-free telephone number. Messages, but not locations, will be viewable by friends and family. Red Cross officials, who began work on the site after Hurricane Katrina, plan to require Web site registration as part of the registration process at Red Cross-operated hurricane shelters.
