The Hudson Institute's Index of Global Philanthropy 2007 (82 pages, PDF) offers a comprehensive guide to the sources and scope of American philanthropy — as well as giving by organizations and individuals in other developed nations — to the developing world. Produced by the institute's Center for Global Prosperity, the second edition of the index suggests that the growing participation of private donors has reshaped the landscape of traditional foreign aid and challenges the "generosity" metric used by the Paris-based Organization of Economic Co-Operation and Development, which compares countries solely on the basis of their official aid figures.
