The Future of Private Loans: Who is Borrowing, and Why? According to The Future of Private Loans: Who Is Borrowing, and Why? (52 pages, PDF), a new report from the Institute for Higher Education Policy, private loans are an increasingly important component in financing postsecondary education. Funded in part by the Pew Charitable Trusts, the report argues that the growth in private student lending, which some analysts predict may surpass federal student loan borrowing by the end of the decade, is due to a number of factors, including rising tuition costs, stagnant federal loan limits, and increased sales of private loans on capital markets.
