Exploring the Metropolis, Inc., a New York City-based nonprofit, has launched two Web sites designed to help musicians and dancers find rehearsal and performance space throughout the five boroughs of New York. Solo instrumentalists, symphony orchestras, rock bands, dancers, dance companies, choreographers, and a host of other performers can visit either www.nycmusicplaces.org or www.nycdanceplaces.org; enter basic criteria such as number of performers, amount of space required, preferred neighborhood, and desired rent; and leave with a list of spaces matching their requirements. Search results feature a range of details, including contact information, equipment available on site, and the closest public transportation. The free online services are supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, Verizon, Altria, and aseveral private foundations.
