Earth Day 2007
First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day marks its 27th anniversary on April 22 with the theme "A Call for Action on Climate Change." Founded by the organizers of that first Earth Day, the Earth Day Network has updated its Urban Environment Report, which rates the environmental performance of seventy-two American cities, with a focus on populations that are more sensitive or susceptible to environmental, health, and social problems. Fargo, North Dakota, topped the list with an EDN Vulnerable Population Index score of 2.73, followed by Burlington, Vermont (2.79) and Portland, Oregon (2.81), while Detroit, Michigan, ranked last with a score of 5.49.
