Poetry in Motion
Since 1992, the Poetry Society of America has operated the Poetry in Motion program, which puts poems in buses and subways year-round. Inspired by a similar initiative in the London Underground, the program, which receives funding from many sources, including the Gladys Krieble Delmas and the Robert Sterling Clark foundations, has been adopted by fourteen cities across the country and reaches thirteen million people a day. Meanwhile, in celebration of National Poetry Month, the Academy of American Poets has announced the names of the nation's biggest poetry fans based on a search launched earlier this year.
