Philanthropy and Voluntarism
Giving Circles and Fundraising
A new study funded in part by the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy finds that giving circles — groups of individuals who pool their money for charitable causes — have much to offer, but that the relationships between giving circles and charities often fail to live up to their full potential. For Giving Circles and Fundraising in the New Philanthropy Environment (20 pages, PDF), researcher Angela Eikenberry of Virginia Tech interviewed leaders of nonprofits that have received funding from many types of funding pools. In the report, she examines the challenges and opportunities associated with one of the most promising recent developments in philanthropy.
