State of the Chesapeake Bay 2006
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's annual State of the Bay report (12 pages, PDF) finds that the bay's condition improved modestly in 2006, with the health index up two points, to 29 out of 100, due largely to decreased pollution and increased levels of dissolved oxygen. However, the bay's health rating remains far short of the foundation's goal of 40 by 2010 — the court-ordered deadline for removing the bay from the nation's "dirty waters" list.
