Understanding the Challenges of Prisoner Reentry
According to Cleveland Prisoners' Experience Returning Home (20 pages, PDF), a new report from the Urban Institute, most inmates in the Cuyahoga County justice system expressed a willingness to change their criminal behaviors before release, although 64 percent recognized they needed help in doing so. The report, which builds on a 2001 UI study that examines the experiences of released prisoners in Ohio and three other states, finds that Cleveland prisoners had limited success finding employment after release, while only 39 percent had worked since returning home.
