Artist Career-Building Across Sectors Produced in collaboration with the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics at the University of Minnesota, Crossover: How Artists Build Careers Across Commercial, Nonprofit and Community Work (104 pages, PDF) explores how musicians, writers, and performing and visual artists in Los Angeles and San Francisco move between the for-profit, nonprofit, and community sectors. Funded by the James Irvine and William and Flora Hewlett foundations and Leveraging Investments in Creativity, the study finds that artists' ability to work comfortably in different sectors stimulates the regional economy while enhancing their own artistic and professional development.
