New England's Creative Economy: State of the Public Cultural Sector According to New England's Creative Economy: The State of the Public Cultural Sector (58 pages, PDF), the region's nonprofit arts, cultural, and humanities industry increased its spending to $3 billion from $2.7 billion between 2000 and 2002. In addition, total assets of arts and cultural organizations in New England during those years increased by $1 billion, to approximately $9.2 billion. The annual study from the New England Foundation for the Arts also found that libraries and museums generated the most financial activity in terms of income, spending, and net assets.
