(10 pages, PDF), published in the July/August 2006 issue of American Theatre magazine, summarizes the thoughts of more than a hundred theater company leaders and independent artists who gathered in four cities for a series of "pulse-takings." Made possible by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and written by Ben Pesner, the report details many of the challenges and opportunities facing the theater community in the post-9/11 environment, touches on areas of discussion that came up repeatedly, and celebrates the vitality of American theater.
