Using Community Assessment Tools to Inform Decision- and Grantmaking
The Wallace Foundation's 2005 annual report, Facing Facts (56 pages, PDF), offers examples of cities, states, school districts, arts groups, and youth-service organizations that employ market research and other tools to assess changing community needs and use data to devise and implement improvements in arts programs, education, and out-of-school learning. In her president's essay, M. Christine DeVita highlights three ways in which private foundations can support those efforts.
