A survey conducted in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Malawi, and Uganda as part of a Guttmacher Institute project on HIV risk found that the sexual and reproductive health issues of adolescents in this West African sub-region have become more critical than they were in the 1990s. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates and Rockefeller foundations, the report found that youth in the region lack sexual knowledge and need more information to protect themselves from HIV and unwanted pregnancy.
