Funded by the Sierra Club Foundation, Building Better: A Guide to America's Best New Development Projects (32 pages, PDF) features twelve redevelopment efforts that side-stepped sprawling, car-dependent "strip mall" construction, opting instead for walkable, transit-accessible neighborhoods and workplaces that preserved existing structures and revitalized local communities. Among other things, the report highlights the developers, architects, local officials, and activists who made those development projects a reality.
