Evaluation of Bay Area KIPP Schools
Through a combination of rigorous academics, a disciplined environment, and a 50 percent increase in the amount of time spent in the classroom, KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) schools prepare underserved urban youth for college. In San Francisco Bay Area KIPP Schools: A Study of Early Implementation, a report funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, researchers from SRI International detail the program's first year of implementation in five California public schools and conclude that the approach has worked for most students.
