Entrepreneurial Activity in the United States Immigrants far outpaced native-born Americans in entrepreneurial activity in 2005, while African Americans were the only major ethnic or racial group to show a year-to-year increase in the rate of entrepreneurship, according to the latest installment of the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity (national report, 20 pages, PDF; state report, 16 pages, PDF). The study by the Kansas City-based Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation also found that entrepreneurial activity declined from 2004 to 2005 for men and Latinos while holding steady among women, and that entrepreneurs got "grayer," as more individuals between the ages of 55 and 64 started businesses.
