Mapping Cultural Participation in Chicago
The socioeconomic characteristics of Chicago's neighborhoods are the best indicators of residents' involvement in the city's cultural institutions, a new study from the Cultural Policy Center at the University of Chicago suggests. Funded by the Joyce Foundation, Mapping Cultural Participation in Chicago (61 pages, PDF) uses data from sixty-one organizations to chart household income, educational level, race, and ethnicity of metro-area neighborhoods and explore whether smaller, ethnic, more diverse cultural organizations reach a different audience than larger institutions.
