Health Coverage for Aging Baby Boomers
According to Health Coverage for Aging Baby Boomers: Findings From the Commonwealth Fund Survey of Older Adults (40 pages, PDF), the number of uninsured Americans between the ages of 50 and 64 grew from 5.5 million in 2000 to 6.6 million in 2004, largely because of a decrease in employer-sponsored coverage. The study also found that more than half of all working baby boomers have chronic health conditions but lack insurance, and that those with lower incomes spend more on health coverage but have reduced access to care.
