Snapshot of U.S. Healthcare Costs
The third annual Health Care Costs 101 (24 pages, PDF), a compilation of healthcare spending statistics from the California HealthCare Foundation, finds that the growth in spending on prescription drugs fell below 10 percent in 2004, the first decline in a decade, while the rate of increase in overall healthcare spending slowed for the second consecutive year, to about $5 billion a day. Through a variety of charts and graphs, the guide shows how much Americans spend on health care, what we spend it on, and how much of that spending comes out of our own pockets.
