Busting Barriers to Graduation at Community Colleges
Students who attend community colleges often face barriers — the responsibilities of a full-time job, poor elementary or secondary education, single parenthood — that many four-year college students don't. The winter 2006 issue of Lumina Foundation Focus (28 pages, PDF) looks at the "barrier busters" individual schools are employing to help at-risk students graduate and offers information on student-body demographics, Lumina's Achieving the Dream initiative, and other efforts that support two-year institutions.
