Rebuilding America's Older Core Cities Shared Prosperity, Stronger Regions: An Agenda for Rebuilding America's Older Core Cities (executive summary, 20 pages, PDF; full document, 174 pages, PDF) explores the challenges confronting once-thriving manufacturing centers in the Northeast and Midwest as the U.S. economy becomes ever more information- and service-driven. Conducted by PolicyLink and the Community Development Partnerships' Network and funded by the Heinz Endowments and the Annie E. Casey, Knight, Surdna, and William Penn foundations, the study looks at Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh; offers strategies for investing public and private resources; and explores opportunities for collaborations that promote economic development, affordable housing, and neighborhood revitalization.
