Connections - Federal Budget for 2007 Increases HIV/AIDS Funding
Although HIV/AIDS funding has increased significantly over the years, it still comprises less than 1 percent of the federal budget. According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation's latest HIV/AIDS Policy Fact Sheet (2 pages, PDF), the president's federal budget request for fiscal year 2007 includes an 8.3 percent increase about $22.8 billion for both domestic and global HIV/AIDS programs. The fact sheet provides an overview of the administration's request; funding designations for health care, cash and housing assistance, prevention, and research; and HIV/AIDS funding comparisons over time.
