Social Networks and the Internet About 60 million Americans have used the Internet to connect with other people and access resources to help them make major life decisions, according to a new survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. In contrast to concerns that growing Internet use is damaging a range of social networks and relationships, The Strength of Internet Ties (65 pages, PDF) found that Americans have used the Internet and e-mail to expand their networks as well as for maintaining existing social ties.
