Arts and Culture

Study of Importance of New York Arts Groups According to a study by the Center for an Urban Future, employment in New York's creative fields from 1998 to 2002 grew at twice the rate of the city's job growth overall. Creative New York (32 pages, PDF) examines the economic importance of New York's nonprofit cultural organizations and for-profit creative companies, and explores strategies for maintaining the city's preeminence in the arts in the face of intense competition from other metropolitan areas. The study was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, Deutsche Bank, the New York Community Trust, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, and the Independence Community Foundation.
