According to a new report from the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease claims the lives of more Americans each year than the next four leading causes of death cancer, chronic lower respiratory diseases, accidents, and diabetes combined. Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics 2006 Update reports that since 1900, cardiovascular disease has been the number-one killer in the United States in every year but one (1918), and that nearly 2,500 Americans die from the disease each day.
