Against a backdrop of rapidly increasing obesity rates in California, Healthy Food, Healthy Communities: Improving Access and Opportunities Through Food Retailing (52 pages, PDF) provides examples of successful efforts to improve access to high-quality, affordable food in low-income neighborhoods. Funded by the California Endowment, the report from PolicyLink, a nonprofit research and advocacy organization, offers a range of strategies for state and local governments, food retailers, businesses, foundations, and community-based organizations designed to increase access and good health in the state's underserved areas.
