Benefits of Greenhouse Gas Reduction in Sao Paulo and California Reduced greenhouse gas emissions, increased energy efficiency, and lowered levels of air pollution have provided significant public health benefits and energy security for California and the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo while also increasing their economic competitiveness, a new study from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation finds. No Reason to Wait: The Benefits of Greenhouse Gas Reduction in Sao Paulo and California (37 pages, PDF), examines the costs and benefits associated with initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions through the use of hybrid vehicles and the development of tougher emission standards, and reduce pollution through legislation, and concludes with a brief look at the areas where the two states — the largest in their respective countries — have agreed to collaborate on further measures.
