One Hundred Best Communities for Young People

The results are in, and the winning communities in the "100 Best Communities for Young People," a national competition sponsored by America's Promise in partnership with the Capital One Financial Corporation, are spread across forty states and range in size from 850 people to more than two million. Entrants in the competition were judged according to the following criteria: the number of caring adults in the community actively involved in the lives of young people; the number and quality of safe places in which young people can learn and grow; a community's capacity to provide young people with a healthy start toward adulthood; its capacity to provide an effective education to young people; and its ability to provide opportunities to young people to help others. Chosen by a panel of civic, business, and nonprofit leaders, the Top 100 includes forty-nine urban communities, twenty-two rural communities, and twenty-nine suburban communities.
