eRiders: A Resource for Nonprofits Working in Developing Countries

Since 1997, technology assistance providers known as eRiders have helped nonprofit organizations working in developing countries integrate an information and communications technology (ICT) strategy into their programs. In contrast to isolated or fragmented programs that lack a training component, eRiders utilize an approach that focuses on training, planning, project development, and implementation. The Tactical Technology Collective has recently released an eRider Starter Kit (92 pages, PDF) that outlines the process for designing, implementing, and running an eRider program. The guide draws on the experience and work of eRiders in more than fifteen countries and four hundred organizations, and includes templates and samples that have been used in existing eRider projects. The guide, which was funded by the Open Society Institute, will incorporate new eRider experiences and models as they emerge.
