Global Giving via TV and the Internet

A new grassroots-philanthropy campaign sponsored by the Skoll Foundation in Palo Alto, California, uses television and the Internet to introduce Americans to extraordinary social entrepreneurs who are working to address seemingly intractable social and economic problems in some of the world's poorest countries. After investing $1.7 million in an upcoming PBS documentary series called The New Heroes, the foundation excerpted four stories from the series and created a DVD, which it is offering to viewers as a way to encourage them to get involved. The DVD is available from http://www.thenewheroes.org; the series, hosted by Robert Redford, airs on June 28 and July 5.
