Television as an Educator on Health Issues Entertainment media, especially television, can play an important, positive role in educating the public about significant health issues. According to Entertainment Education and Health in the United States, an issue brief of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, public health organizations are increasingly turning to the producers of sitcoms, soap operas, and reality shows to incorporate health-related story lines as a way to raise awareness of such issues as drunk driving, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and cancer. The ultimate goal is to motivate people to take responsibility for their own health and well-being.
