Outdoor Air Pollution Lower But Still Dangerous
Millions of people live in places where pollution in the air makes it difficult, even dangerous, to breathe. State of the Air 2005, a report from the American Lung Association, examines the two most toxic and prevalent air pollutants ozone and particle pollution in U.S. counties where they are measured and finds that although levels of both pollutants are down, more than 152 million Americans 52 percent of the population live in counties with unhealthful levels of ozone or particle pollution. To check the air quality in your state, see the How's Your Air? section of the report.
