Proxy Voting Important for Foundations
Companies are entering a record-breaking "proxy season," with more than two hundred proposals of social import up for votes. And foundations — the equivalent of large institutional investors, with much of their $476 billion endowments invested in the equities of U.S. companies — can cast engaged, informed votes in keeping with their missions, while also protecting the value of their endowments. It places the socially relevant proposals into six categories, from "hot" (HIV/AIDS, renewable energy) and fastest-growing issues (political contributions, animal welfare) to top vote getters (sustainability, equal opportunity) and topics on the horizon (environmental health).
