MIT Receives $5 Million Donation from MasterCard

MasterCard has donated $5 million to MIT's Media Lab to fund the study of electronic payment methods. The donation will help fund creation of the MasterCard Future of Transactions Laboratory, which will be housed in the school's Media Lab. Research in the new laboratory will focus on e-payment technology business models.

Texas Tech Receives $3.5 Million Donation from PNB Financial

PNB Financial has donated $3.5 million to Texas Tech, which is currently in the process of a $75 million renovation of Jones Stadium. PNB Financial, which has also made gifts to the school for scholarship endowments, has given $5 million towards the stadium renovation project thus far.

Target Stores Announce Student, Teacher Scholarship Winners

Minneapolis-based Target Stores have announced the names of more than 3,700 students and teachers, recipients of nearly $3 million through the All-Around and Teachers Scholarship programs. Each year, Target stores nationwide award two $1,000 All-Around Scholarships to high school seniors and college undergraduates. In 2000, approximately 1,800 students will receive scholarships worth $1,000, and five students will receive $10,000 grand prize All-Around Scholarships. In addition, Target stores award Teachers Scholarships to teachers, principals and administrative staff for continuing education. This year, Target store districts will award nearly 100 $1,500 scholarships, while each store will award approximately two $500 Teachers Scholarships.

Time Warner Inc. Gives $3 Million for Harvard Chair in African-American Music

Harvard University has announced the creation of the first endowed professorship in African-American music at Harvard and possibly in the United States. The chair, created with a $3 million gift from media corporation Time Warner Inc., is named for music producer and entertainer Quincy Jones.
