Rhythm and Blues Foundation Awards First Grants

The Rhythm and Blues Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1988 to foster the recognition, preservation, and financial support of rhythm and blues music, has announced its first performance grant awards. Grants totaling $79,500 were awarded to 15 musicians across the United States, with individual grant amounts ranging from $3,000 to $7,500. Recipients include Terrell Leonard of Los Angeles, for his work with inner-city schoolchildren, and Vernon Green (& the Medallions) of Perris, California, for their work with disabled veterans and area high school kids. Other recipients include the Cadillacs, Irma Thomas, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Rufus Thomas, the Staple Singers, and Justine "Baby" Washington.
