University of Washington's Henry Art Gallery Receives Photography Collection Worth $2 Million

The Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington in Seattle is celebrating the renovation and expansion of its galleries with a series of inaugural exhibitions, including a display of photographs from the collection of Elaine and Joseph Monsen. The Monsens gave the Henry the core of their photography holdings, considered one of the finest private collections of its kind in the world. The gift, comprising 250 photos that range across the history of the medium, is worth roughly $2 million and was made possible by a $1.5 million grant from the Boeing Co.
