Foundation Center Fourth Annual Open House

Join us for our annual Open House for nonprofits at the New York library/learning center. We will offer classes, guest speakers, and networking time, with refreshments and prizes. Learn how the Center can be a resource for your nonprofit organization. Don't forget your business cards!

Program registration
Please click on the sessions you'd like to attend and register separately for each. This event is offered free of charge, but space is limited and advance registration is required. Please remember to arrive on time; we cannot hold seats once a session has begun.

9:30 – 9:55 am: Check-in, continental breakfast, and networking bingo

9:55 am: Welcoming remarks and review of day's activities


10:00 – 11:15 am: NYC, Nonprofits, and the Budget with New York City Council Member Gale A. Brewer
Learn about building relationships with government officials and get an inside look at the New York City budget and how it affects nonprofit funding.

11:15 am: First prize drawing

11:15-11:30: Break and bingo

11:30 am– 1:00 pm: Foundation Giving and the Nonprofit Sector: The Outlook for 2009-2010
Hear Steven Lawrence, the Center's senior director for research, present findings from a new research advisory on the outlook for foundation giving in 2009 and 2010. Representatives of the New York Community Trust and United Neighborhood Houses will respond to the report.

1:30-2:30 pm: Lunch Break and choice of activities*

    1:30 – 2:15 pm: Brown Bag Lunch (beverages and cookies will be served)
    Making the Most of Foundation Directory Online: Power Search and Mapping
    Even if you’ve taken the basic introduction to Foundation Directory Online, come to this demo to learn something new about effective searching.

    1:30-2:15 pm: Library tours and Treasure Hunt

    1:30-2:15 pm: Informal networking (beverages and cookies will be served)

2:30 – 4:00 pm: Fundraising in a Challenging Economy
Get an overview of what you can do to survive, thrive, and succeed in sustaining your nonprofit during the current economic crisis.
