Mission: Community Resource Exchange believes that the talent, leadership and skills to solve today's social problems can be found in the communities of New York City. Founded in 1979, CRE is a nonprofit organization that provides management consulting to an array of community-based organizations committed to helping people affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. For over two decades, CRE has worked with the leadership of more than 2,500 community groups to increase the quality, productivity, and effectiveness of their organizations, and in turn, strengthen the neighborhoods they serve.
Background: "CRE’s work is grounded in a very straightforward theory of change. There are communities in this city with major problems, and people/organizations with solutions. We see the value, tested over the years, in working with problem solvers to improve their chances of success. We understand fully our responsibility as knowledgeable, well-prepared advisors, working together with our clients to help alleviate poverty and HIV/AIDS. Within that mindset our management services are only useful in the context of broader improvements" - Fran Barrett, Executive Director, CRE.
Current Programs:
Each year CRE works with over 300 organizations on critical management issues. Our developmental consulting centers on strengthening the quality, productivity, and effectiveness of our clients’ organizations. CRE’s services focus on key management areas such as board development, fundraising, strategic planning, organizational development, leadership development, and financial management that are central to an organization’s development and programmatic success.
Funding Needs:
Funding to provide capacity building and technical assistance to New York City based community groups.
