Mission:
The Pershay Dance Ministry is a community outreach organization that provides dance and theatre workshops to inner city youth ages 6 to 21. Pershay Dance Ministry believes in the concept of community where everyone and everything has a role in making the community a better place to live, work and play. Our mission is to mobilize youth, families and community members to promote programs that will impact change in our community.
Background:
The Pershay Dance Ministry was founded by a mother who wanted to help the youth in her church in 2000. There was a need to reach out to inner city youth, but developed dance programs were lacking. Initially the ratio of girls was higher than that of boys, but that has changed. The Pershay Dance Ministry Corporation uses dance, theatre workshops, and talent shows to introduce the arts into communities. Our programs continue to unite parents, students and community politicians, helping them recognize the importance of keeping our youth active in creative projects. Currently more than 50 children participate in our programs, and this number is growing.
Current Programs:
Dance - hip-hop/liturgical/flag dancing/sign dancing/African.
Theatre - acting, with performances three times a year.
Music - voice and piano lessons.
Funding Needs:
We are in need of a sponsor for the dance troupe's out-of-state travel expenses, airfare, hotel, costumes, uniforms, and support for a building.
