Group Visits

The Foundation Center welcomes group visits to our library.

Typically, classes that make use of this service are undergraduate or graduate students learning about the nonprofit sector in general, and fund development in particular, as it relates to foundations, corporate giving, and other private funders.

This service is also available for groups not affiliated with a college or university. For instance, we have conducted training sessions for groups of international visitors being hosted by other organizations.

Our staff trainers can present any of our regularly scheduled, free sessions for your group, including Grantseeking Basics, Grantseeking Basics for Individuals, BiblioTour, CyberTour, Getting Started with FC Search, or Proposal Writing Basics. For a complete description of those classes, visit http://foundationcenter.org/newyork/ny_training.html. We can also tailor a presentation to your specific interests.

Because these classes are scheduled regularly, we ask that if you plan to bring a group of 10 or fewer people, you investigate the feasibility of registering your group for one of those sessions. To view a calendar of upcoming sessions and to register online go to http://foundationcenter.org/newyork/ny_calendar.html.

If you have a group of at least 15 people, please contact the New York library's senior librarian at sgs@foundationcenter.org to discuss your group's training needs.

Off-Site Training and Events

Can't come to us? Ask about our Community Outreach Program.

While we encourage you to visit our Library/Learning Center in order to take full advantage of our state-of-the-art training facility and extensive print and online resources, we know that scheduling group meetings and conferences can be complicated. We'd like to help.

Contact us if you are:
  • Working for a nonprofit organization or government agency serving the five boroughs of New York
  • Planning a meeting or event for 25 or more
  • Looking for information on foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Representing a constituency that is new, grassroots, or under-served
Our outreach programs are based on the free one-hour training courses on fundraising and proposal writing that we offer at the Center on a regularly scheduled basis. See a description of current course offerings.

Our outreach programs are generally conducted during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you wish to hold your program during evening hours you may want to request a group visit on Wednesdays when the library is open 10:00a.m. to 8:00p.m.

We are also happy to participate in panel discussions with funders or technical assistance providers on site and off site at conferences run by other organizations in our areas of expertise. Priority will be given to groups which serve community-based organizations and other under-resourced groups. There is no charge for Center outreach staff to present at these programs as long as attendance is free or nominal for participants.

For more information, contact Charlotte Dion at 212-807-2411 or e-mail cd@foundationcenter.org. For information about our intensive full-day fee-based programming, contact training@foundationcenter.org.
