Grant Amount:
$100,000 over two years
Description:
Low-income communities have recently been benefiting from the emergence of alternative schools developed from various educational philosophies. Reproducing the exceptional schools is challenging since their success is often tied to the work of the founders.
Replications, Inc. has been able to overcome this obstacle, establishing nine schools in the North and South Bronx, Harlem, and Bedford Stuyvesant in the last five years. It places a team of teachers at an exemplary school for a year. The team then starts a new school in another under-resourced community, with one of the teachers serving as the school leader.
Within the next two years, Replications will expand its programs, starting eight middle schools and eight high schools. The leadership development program that supports the new principals will be funded in part by a $100,000 grant from the New York Community Trust.
