Grants That Make a Difference

October 1, 2005

Center for Arts Education Helping Students Learn Music

A recent issue of Brooklyn Parent highlights the success story of a popular violin program at P.S. 206, the Joseph F. Lamb School. The initiative, which had received funding from the Center for Arts Education's Parents as Arts Partners (PAAP) program, involved 400 students, parents, and staff members.

The violin group has strengthened the community by reinforcing intergenerational ties and by bringing together diverse populations through music.

Susan Delahunt, the kindergarten music teacher who launched the project noted, "I'm grateful to PAAP for helping us jumpstart this program…The kids really caught on to the parents' wonderful enthusiasm."

The Center for Arts Education, founded in 1996, promotes arts education in New York City public schools. It's Parents as Arts Partners program has provided $28 million for arts education projects thus far.
