New York Stock Exchange Supports AmeriCares' Tsunami Relief Efforts
AmeriCares has announced that it will receive $500,000 from the New York Stock Exchange Foundation to continue its efforts in South Asia. AmeriCares' airlifts and emergency response teams have been providing essential medicines and water purification treatments in India, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka. Nearly 100 tons of aid have been delivered thus far.
President and chief executive officer of AmeriCares Curtis R. Welling notes, "In the aftermath of this tragedy, millions of people are now at risk for diseases. This donation will allow us to ensure that our medicines and other aid will reach those who need it the most as quickly as possible and to begin the process of reconstructing and re-equipping the medical infrastructure."
In addition to donating $500,000 to AmeriCares, the New York Stock Exchange Foundation will also match employee contributions to relief efforts.
