IBM Announces Partnership with Hispanic Nonprofits
IBM recently announced its new collaboration with nonprofits across the country that will make it easier for Hispanics to access English content on the Internet. IBM has committed over $1 million to ¡TradúceloAhora! (Translate Now) Automatic Translation Project, which includes donations of personal computers, English-to-Spanish translation software, and support from IBM researchers. Thirty nonprofits representing Hispanic communities in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York City were selected for the program. Organizations participating in New York City include, Advocates for Children of New York, Aspira of NY, Coalition of Hispanic Family Services, F.E.G.S, Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, Society for the Educational Arts, and the Hispanic Federation. The nonprofits will provide feedback to help IBM researchers improve the translation software.
"We believe when you combine IBM's technological resources with direct feedback from the community, you can take a significant leap across the Hispanic Digital Divide," said Stanley S. Litow, president of the IBM International Foundation and vice president of IBM Corporate Community Relations.
