Ford Foundation Launches Challenge Fund for Journalism

The Ford Foundation, in collaboration with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, recently announced the Challenge Fund for Journalism, which will support fundraising efforts of seven journalism organizations that promote diversity in the news media. The selected organizations that will receive challenge grants include the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, Native American Journalists Association, Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, and UNITY: Journalists of Color. The Conservation Company will provide technical assistance to help the groups target individual donors.

"The Ford Foundation and the organizations this fund supports are leading the drive to help America's news media reflect the nation it serves," said Eric Newton, director of Knight Foundation's Journalism Initiatives Program.
