Lower Manhattan Arts Organizations Receive $1.7 Million in Grants
The Alliance for Downtown New York, the New York City
Department of Cultural Affairs, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) have announced grants to further develop facilities for downtown arts organizations. The September 11th Fund was major contributor for the cultural grants program.
LMCC President Tom Healy noted, "Since September 11th, the creative sector downtown has been working to rebuild…These grants are the result of New York City's unique and extraordinary commitment to the arts and the faith that donors from around the country put in our city after
9/11. It is the generosity of citizens and families from across the United States that is making the rebirth of downtown possible."
Bill Bernstein, interim president of the Alliance for Downtown New York added, "The arts are an economic development driver in any neighborhood and are important to create a more vibrant community for workers, businesses and residents…These grants address the need for immediate momentum to grow the arts sector Downtown and these organizations will greatly enhance the community."
