Bertelsmann Foundation Awards Scholarships to New York City Students
Students from New York City recently received more than $120,000 in grants from the World of Expression Scholarship program. More than 1,200 entries were submitted this year in hopes of winning scholarships of up to $10,000. Students competed in music composition or creative writing.
The program has awarded more than a million dollars in scholarships since 1992, and is supported by the Bertelsmann Foundation, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, and Random House, Inc.
"The World of Expression Awards were founded to stimulate expression and creativity in students by encouraging them to pursue and develop their music and literary talents," said Melanie Fallon-Houska, Director of the World of Expression Program. "Students enjoy participating in our program because they are given the freedom to speak from their heart and submit songs and stories on any topic in any style. The entries and winners are as diverse as the city they represent. My Bertelsmann colleagues and I are proud of their accomplishments and inspired by their creativity."
A booklet or CD showcasing this year's winners can be obtained by calling the World of Expression hotline (888 369-3434).
